Career of QB Terrelle Pryor ends after numerous recent allegations at Ohio State

By Umaru Lamin, DGT Sports Writer

In 2007 Terrelle Pryor was the most heralded football player coming out of the high school ranks. Pryor was the top rank player out of Pennsylvania and he was sought after by all the major BCS Football Schools, especially Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. Ohio State landed the gifted 6-6 quarterback with the frame of a tight end, and speed of a blazing wide receiver. Ohio State envisioned Pryor leading the Buckeyes to BCS National Championships, along with the leadership of coach Jim Tressel. However all the huge expectations for Ohio State, and specifically Terrelle Pryor have collapsed since the eve of last years Sugar Bowl where the allegations of Pryor and some of his Ohio State teammates trading in player merchandise in exchange for tattoos from tattoo parlors in Ohio. The initial investigation and resulting whistle blowing has revealed that former coach Jim Tressel knew of the incident which eventually led to his firing a couple of weeks ago. The domino effect of has put a blemish on the proud football program of the Ohio State Buckeyes brandishing the well known scarlet and grey colors.

Terrelle Pryor's lawyer announced yesterday that Pryor wouldn't be participating in the 2011 football season. The new story out of Buckeye land is that Pryor received payments for autograph sessions while competing as an amateur athlete. The problems seem to getting worse by the day for Pryor who initially was to serve a 5 game suspension for the merchandise incident. Now with Tressel out as head coach, and Pryor's career over at Ohio St one must look back at the accomplishments of the QB who was the number rated player coming out of high school. Under Pryor Ohio State played in three straight BCS games during his three years as Ohio State quarterback beating the Oregon Ducks in '08, losing to Texas in the Fiesta Bowl in '09, and pulling out a victory in the controversial Sugar Bowl last year. But Pryor will leave the program without winning a national championship for the powers of the Big Ten. The program is now under a cloud of skepticism after separate infractions continue to implode the football program. The once five star player out of high school sought after by every school in America seems to know stained not only is image as a Buckeye, but the program as a whole. Ohio State will be led this year by a freshman quarterback without any real game experience, and an interim head coach to lead a team that will have a bulls eye on its back when it enters into Big Ten play. The Buckeyes will have to travel to Miami to take on the Hurricanes, and they also have road games against the new entrants into the Big Ten Nebraska, and Michigan in the Big House to close out the year. Suddenly a season that might have seemed BCS bound might not turn out as once anticipated. Ohio State seems to be the rivals of every program in the Big Ten and don't expect any of the teams in the league to let up during this time of turmoil for the Buckeyes.

Only time will tell about the punishment that will enventually be laid down by the NCAA for the conduct by the Ohio State program. Southern California was denied a request for reduced punishment by the NCAA for the Reggie Bush incident for receiving improper benefits during his time as the Trojan running back. Unfortunately Terrelle Pryor may go down as the primary figure that led to the debacle, and eventual sanctions that might hit the Buckeyes program. Will the once heralded football player be remembered by Buckeye fans as the self-fish athlete that brought the scarlet and grey crumbling down.
